Community Calendar Announcement — Panoche Energy Center

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio outlet, or television station offers a calendar of community events, please include news of the following event:

The California Energy Commission is reviewing an Application for Certification of the Panoche Energy Center in western Fresno County. A Committee of the California Energy Commission will hold an evidentiary hearing on:

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2007
Beginning at 2:00 p.m.
California Energy Commission
1516 Ninth Street, Hearing Room A
Sacramento, CA 95814
Wheelchair Accessible

Interested members of the public who are not able to attend the hearing may participate by calling, toll-free, 1-800-369-1122. The pass code is Panoche. The conference leader is Paul Kramer.

The purpose of the evidentiary hearing is to establish the factual record necessary to reach a decision in this case. This is accomplished by taking oral, written, or documentary evidence presented by the applicant, Panoche Energy Center, LLC and the expert Energy Commission staff.

The applicant filed its proposal with the Energy Commission on August 2, 2006 to construct and operate a 400 megawatt (MW), simple-cycle generating facility located on a 12.8-acre site within a 128-acre parcel about 12 miles southwest of Mendota in western Fresno County.

The project will include four natural gas-fired combustion turbine generators. If approved by the Energy Commission, construction of the Panoche Energy Center is expected to begin in January 2008. Construction would continue through January 2009, and the expected on-line date is August 2009. The total cost of power plant is expected to be more than $300 million.

Members of the public and other interested agencies are invited to participate and provide comments. Those who wish further information about how to participate should contact, the Commissions Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by email at: pao@energy.state.ca.us

The Commission's website contains current information on the proposed project at: www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/panoche/index.html
