Supplemental hearing and public conference scheduled Monday,
July 21 on the proposed decision for the Eastshore Energy Center
The California Energy Commission committee reviewing the proposed Eastshore Energy Center in Hayward will hold a supplemental evidentiary hearing and public conference on the presiding member's proposed decision (PMPD) issued on June 20, 2008.
When: Beginning at 1 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2008. A public comment period is scheduled from 6-8 p.m.
Where: Hayward City Hall Chambers, 777 B Street, Hayward, California.
Why: The PMPD recommended that the Energy Commission deny approval to Tierra Energy's 115-megawatt peaking facility proposed for construction on Clawiiter Road in Hayward.
Who:: The committee led by Commissioner Jeff Byron will reopen the evidentiary record to receive evidence from the formal parties on specific issues related to air quality, public health and worker safety and fire protection services. Members of the public are invited to attend. Following the limited evidentiary hearing, the committee will hold a public conference on the PMPD from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to discuss oral and written comments from formal parties, government agencies and members of the public.
After the conference a public comment period is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to give the public an opportunity to present new written and oral comments on the PMPD. The committee will continue to accept written comments until the close of the comment period on July 28, 2008.
The PMPD is not the final decision on the power plant. After the comment period ends on July 28, the full Energy Commission will consider the proposed decision for a final vote at a future date after all public comments have been reviewed.
