Site visits, informational hearings and workshops scheduled for two proposed Contra Costa County power plants

The California Energy Commission has scheduled site visits and informational hearings for the proposed Marsh Landing Generating Station near Antioch and the Willow Pass Generating Station in Pittsburg. Members of the public are invited to attend.

Where: Delta Diablo Sanitation District, 2500 Pittsburg-Antioch Highway, in Antioch

When: Thursday, December 18, 2008

A free bus leaves at 2:10pm from the sanitation district to take participants to the site of the proposed Marsh Landing facility. It will return to Delta Diablo at 3:20pm. The Marsh Landing informational hearing begins at the district's plant operations lunchroom at 5pm. The bus for the Willow Pass plant site visit will depart from Delta Diablo at 3:40pm and return there at 4:45pm The Willow Pass informational hearing will start at the district's plant operations lunchroom at 6:30p.m.

Who: Commission Vice Chairman James Boyd and Commissioner Karen Douglas, presiding member of the Marsh Landing and Willow Pass committees respectively, will lead the site visits and informational hearings. These steps are the first in a formal process that allows the public, governmental agencies and other interested parties to participate in the review of the planned power plants.

What: The 550-megawatt Willow Pass Generating Station is a dry-cooled, natural gas fired facility. The 930-MW Marsh Landing Generating Station is also natural gas fired and air-cooled.

Why: If approved by the Commission, Willow Pass will be constructed over a 34-month period for a planned operation in 2012. If given a license, Marsh Landing is planned for construction beginning in the autumn of next year. It is targeted for commercial operation in the summer of 2012.

Data Request workshops

Aside from the site visits and informational hearings, data response and issue resolution workshops are also scheduled for the proposed plants. These workshops will discuss data responses already received from the plants' applicant and work toward resolving outstanding issues.

The workshop for Marsh landing will be held beginning at 10am Thursday, December 18th, at the Delta Diablo Sanitation District.

The workshop for Willow Pass will be held Friday, December 19th beginning at 10am at the Pittsburg City Hall, 65 Pittsburg Avenue.
