Data Response workshop for the
Palmdale hybrid power project to be held February 4th
The California Energy Commission will conduct a data response and issues resolution workshop for the proposed Palmdale Hybrid Power Project. Members of the public are invited to participate.
When: Beginning at 10am, Wednesday, February 4, 2008
Where: Development Services Building
38250 Sierra Highway, Palmdale, California
Who: Energy Commission staff is currently analyzing the City of Palmdale's application for certification (AFC) for the hybrid project. At the workshop, staff will discuss data responses on several technical areas already received from the applicant and work toward resolving issues. Following the workshop, staff will consider the responses and comments it receives in preparing a preliminary staff assessment containing an initial analysis of issues and recommendations for mitigation and conditions of certification for the proposed plant.
What: The Palmdale project consists of a hybrid of natural gas-fired combined cycle generating facility integrated with solar thermal generating equipment to be developed on about 377 acres in the city's northern portion. Ten percent of the plant's 617-megawatt output will come from a solar thermal component.
Why: If approved by the Commission, the project will start construction towards a planned commercial operation in the summer of 2013. Throughout the project's 12-month licensing review, the Energy Commission will conduct public workshops and hearings on the proposed plant to determine whether it should be certified for a license and under what set of conditions.
