Committee conference to be held March 8 on
proposed decision for Orange County power plant
What: The Energy Commission committee reviewing the Canyon Power Plant project will conduct a public conference on the presiding member's proposed decision (PMPD) for the planned facility in Orange County.
When: Monday, March 8, 2010, Beginning at 10:30am
Where: Hearing Room A, First Floor, California Energy Commission, 1516 Ninth Street, Sacramento
Why: During the public conference, the Committee will consider oral and written comments on the PMPD from the formal parties to the proceeding, government agencies and members of the public.
The committee's PMPD has recommended the approval of the 200-megawatt plant, saying that the facility will have no significant impacts on the environment and that it complies with applicable laws, ordinances, regulations and standards (LORS).
The PMPD said that the plant's interconnection to the transmission grid follows all ordinances. The document has concluded that the facility complied with the rules and requirements of the South Coast Air Quality Management District and demonstrated its ability to provide sufficient emission reduction credits.
The proposed decision was based solely on the record of facts established during the facility's certification proceeding.
The Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) and the City of Anaheim would own the proposed plant. The project site is at East Miraloma Avenue, in Anaheim, in a designated industrial zone.
After the 30-day comment period on the PMPD ends on March 10, the full five-member Energy Commission will consider the document for possible adoption at a regular business meeting on March 17, 2010.
