Attention Editors
Public workshop to be held March 22
on the Imperial Valley Solar Project

What: The staff of the California Energy Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management will conduct a workshop on the Staff Assessment/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SA/DEIS) for the Imperial Valley (formerly SES Solar Two) Solar Project in Imperial County.

When: Monday, March 22, 2010, starting at 8am.

Where: San Diego Gas & Electric Renewable Center, 1425 W. Main Street, El Centro, California

If necessary, the workshop will continue the next day at the same venue.

Provisions have been made to enable participants and the public unable to attend in person to participate by telephone.

Why: At the workshop staff will summarize its conclusions in the SA/DEIS and addendum and receive comments from the public, formal parties to the proceeding and local, state and federal agencies. Environmental and engineering related topics and any outstanding issues will be discussed.

The next step in the review process will be a pre-hearing conference in Sacramento on March 25, 2010 to assess the parties' readiness for the evidentiary hearing to be conducted April 19-20 in El Centro.

The 750-MW Impeial Valley project would use SunCatcher solar-dish technology designed to automatically track the sun and focus solar energy onto a power conversion unit to generate electricity.

If approved, SES Solar Two will begin construction this year. For additional details on the project, please go to: http://www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/solartwo/index.html
