Staff Assessment Workshop for Proposed Almond 2 Power Project on May 18

What: The California Energy Commission staff will hold a public workshop on its staff assessment (SA) on the proposed 174-megawatt Almond 2 Power Plant Project (A2PP) in Stanislaus County.

When: Tuesday, May 18, 2010, beginning at 9am

Where: North Conference Room A, Fourth Floor, California Energy Commission, 1516 Ninth Street, Sacramento, California

Arrangements have been made for people unable to attend or cutting down on travel to participate by telephone.

Why: The workshop will provide an opportunity for all interested parties and the public to discuss the staff assessment. It will also provide an opportunity for all parties to work towards resolving any outstanding issues. All technical disciplines will be open for discussion at the workshop, with a particular focus on biology, cultural resources, and soil and water resources.

The proposed project will be owned and operated by the Turlock Irrigation District (TID) and is planned on a 4.6-acre parcel adjacent to the district's existing 48 megawatt (MW) TID Almond Power Plant. The site is an industrial area, 2 miles from the Ceres city center and 5 miles from Modesto.

If approved by the Energy Commission, construction of the project would begin in the fourth quarter of 2010, continuing for about 12 months, with full-scale commercial operation targeted for the fourth quarter of 2011.
