Cash for Appliances Rebate Program Extended
Consumers Get More Choices & Added Flexibility

What: The Energy Commission today voted to extend the Cash for Appliances rebate program and provided California consumers more time to apply for rebates. Previously, the program was to expire on May 23. The rebate program will now continue until funds run out and give consumers up to 120 days from the purchase date to submit their rebate application by mail.

More choices for eligible models were approved last week with an additional 38 clothes washers and 30 refrigerators added to the total selection of 259 clothes washers, 126 refrigerators, and 300 room air conditioners. A complete list of eligible models may be viewed here: www.cash4appliances.org/products/index.html

The Energy Commission has received more than 31,000 applications with approximately $25 million still available for rebates. Currently more than $6 million in rebates has been received to process.

When: The California Cash for Appliances rebate program continues until funds are exhausted and rebates are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. A tracker is updated on the remaining amount of funds available at: www.cash4appliances.org

Why:As a result of high demand for energy efficient appliances nationally more time was needed to deliver purchased appliances to consumers. Changing the time requirement to submit an application from 30 days to 120 days and extending the program beyond the old May 23 deadline allows more participation in the rebate program. The revised rebate program Guidelines can be viewed here: www.energy.ca.gov/business_meetings/index.html

Who: : The Energy Commission has partnered with more than 85 Platinum Retail Partners and more than 40 Official Partners to assist consumers with appliance purchases, recycling their old appliances and completing their application package. A list of partners is available at: www.cash4appliances.org/partners/list.html

How: Consumers are eligible for a rebate when they purchase a qualified highly energy efficient appliance, properly recycle their old appliance, and submit a complete application package within 120 days of the appliance purchase. Instructions on how to complete an application for the California Cash for Appliances rebate is available at: www.cash4appliances.org/consumers/Rebate-Form.pdf

Eligible energy efficient appliances and rebate amounts available are: refrigerators $200, clothes washers $100, and room air conditioners up to $50.
