Prehearing conference on February 7 for Mariposa Energy Project

Sacramento - The California Energy Commission committee reviewing the proposed Mariposa Energy Project will hold a prehearing conference. The public is invited to participate.

When: Monday, February 7, 2011, beginning at 10 a.m.

Where: Byron Bethany Irrigation District, 7995 Bruns Road, Byron

Arrangements have been made for people unable to attend to participate by telephone and/or by computer. For details, click the following link and scroll to page 6: http://www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/mariposa/notices/2011-02-07_24_25_Revised_Notice_of_PHC_and_EH.pdf

Why: The prehearing conference will assess the parties' readiness for the evidentiary hearings. At the prehearing, all parties (staff, applicant, and intervenors) will present their respective positions regarding the substantive topic areas ready for evidentiary hearing, the topics that require further analysis, the topic areas that have been resolved, and the topic areas that are disputed and require adjudication. The parties will also identify proposed witnesses and time required for direct testimony and/or cross-examination.

Evidentiary hearings are scheduled for February 24 and February 25 at the Byron Bethany Irrigation District. The purpose of the hearings is to establish the factual record upon which the Commission will decide the case, based on written or documentary evidence from the official parties to the proceeding.

After the hearings, the committee reviewing the project will consider the recommendations presented by staff, applicant, intervenors, government agencies, and the public prior to proposing its decision to the full five-member Energy Commission for deliberation and final consideration.

What: The planned Mariposa Energy Project is a natural gas-fired, simple-cycle peaking facility with a generating capacity of 200 megawatts. The project, which is being proposed by Mariposa Energy, LLC, would be located in Alameda County about seven miles northwest of Tracy, seven miles east of Livermore, six miles south of Byron, and about 2.5 miles west of Mountain House.

The proposed project site is in an unincorporated area designated for agricultural use. The facility would be located southeast of the intersection of Bruns and Kelso roads on a 10-acre portion of a 158-acre parcel south of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company's Bethany Compressor Station and Kelso Substation.
