Sacramento - The California Energy Commission committee reviewing the proposed Mariposa Energy Project will hold an evidentiary hearing. The public is invited to participate.

When: Monday, March 7, 2011, beginning at 10 a.m.

Where: Hearing Room B, California Energy Commission, 1516 Ninth Street, Sacramento, California

Why: The purpose of the evidentiary hearing is to establish the factual record upon which the Commission will decide the case, based on written or documentary evidence from the official parties to the proceeding.

After the hearing, the committee reviewing the project will consider the recommendations presented by staff, applicant, intervenors, government agencies, and the public prior to proposing its decision to the full five-member Energy Commission for deliberation and final consideration.

What: The planned Mariposa Energy Project is a natural gas-fired, simple-cycle peaking facility with a generating capacity of 200 megawatts. The project, which is being proposed by Mariposa Energy, LLC, would be located in Alameda County about seven miles northwest of Tracy, seven miles east of Livermore, six miles south of Byron, and about 2.5 miles west of Mountain House.

The proposed project site is in an unincorporated area designated for agricultural use. The facility would be located southeast of the intersection of Bruns and Kelso roads on a 10-acre portion of a 158-acre parcel south of the Pacific Gas & Electric Company's Bethany Compressor Station and Kelso Substation.
