Norco Improves Energy Efficiency with Lighting Upgrades
City Hall to Lead in Savings

The rural City of Norco (Riverside County) is now saving energy and money thanks to federal stimulus funds. The city nicknamed "Horsetown USA" upgraded the lighting systems in several public buildings including City Hall, the community center, and senior center.

Lighting systems in the buildings were retrofitted with new high efficiency Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) LEDs uses less energy and are longer lasting enabling the city to save on energy and maintenance costs.

The lighting project will save Norco 91,578 in kilowatt hours or $14,194 in energy costs. The retrofits allow the buildings to reduce 31.6 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Funding for the project, completed in June was courtesy of an Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) of $84,248 from the U.S. Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Administered by the California Energy Commission, federal block grants are helping small cities and counties attain their energy efficiency goals.

The California Energy Commission is the state's primary energy policy and planning agency.
