Hearing Room A

(Wheelchair Accessible)

As part of its regularly scheduled Business Meeting on November 19, 2003, the Energy Commission will consider adopting the Renewables Committee Final Renewable Resources Development Report (Commission Publication number 500-03-080FD). Senate Bill 1038 (SB 1038, Sher, Chapter 515, Statutes of 2002) required the California Energy Commission to develop and submit to the Legislature a comprehensive renewable generation resource plan by December 1, 2003. The Renewable Resources Development Report (RRDR) was produced to meet this requirement.

Summary

The Renewable Resources Development Report (RRDR) describes the renewable resource potential in California and the other states in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC). The report also discusses cost trends of renewable energy technologies along with installed capacity of renewable energy in California and the remaining WECC. Estimates of renewable energy required to meet the statewide Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) by 2017 are provided, along with estimates of renewable energy required to meet the statewide RPS at an accelerated schedule. The report contains a discussion of key policy issues affecting implementation of the statewide RPS and accelerated RPS, as well as discussion of recent research and development activities related to renewable energy.
