Public Interest Energy Research Advisory Board
Board Purpose
The PIER Advisory Board has been formed to provide strategic guidance on funding priorities for the Energy Commission Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) program.
The Advisory Board consists of representatives from the California Public Utilities Commission, California Air Resources Board, California Independent System Operator, consumer organizations, environmental organizations, the investor-owned utilities and others. Additionally, six members of the California Legislature may meet with the Advisory Board and participate in its activities. Energy Commissioners serve as co-chairs of the Advisory Board.

- Ensure that the PIER program is focused on public interest research consistent with the goals established by the legislation.
- Provide advice and strategic guidance in the planning and funding of the portfolio of public interest energy research, development and demonstration programs and projects administered by the Energy Commission that will provide highest value benefits to California's electricity and natural gas consumers.
