WORKSHOP ON HYDROPOWER ROADMAPS
PIER ENVIRONMENTAL AREA
The California Energy Commission's (Commission) Public Interest Energy Research-Environmental Area (PIER-EA) Team is preparing three roadmaps to identify research needed to address the effects of hydropower operation on California's freshwater ecosystems.

901 P Street
Bonderson Building, Hearing Room A
Sacramento, California 95814
The three roadmaps being prepared specifically address research needs for fish passage, water quality and instream flow assessment as they relate to hydropower. Each roadmap briefly reviews the scientific literature and current research efforts as they relate to the topic, identifies information gaps that need to be addressed, and gives the priority of these research efforts.
Drafts of these roadmaps are available on the web at:
The goal of this program is to identify, develop and fund research that will improve our understanding of these issues, and to provide a sound knowledge base for decision-making regarding hydropower and aquatic resources. Following the workshop, comments will be incorporated, as appropriate, into the final roadmaps which will serve as a basis for a request for proposals to fund the high priority research.
