The purpose of this workshop is to provide a live demonstration of demand response (DR) stakeholders collaborating in real-time through DR BizNet to implement DR efficiently. The stakeholders that will be participating in this demonstration include the California Independent System Operator (CA ISO), Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), Infotility, a commercial customer in PG&E service territory, a residential customer in SDG&E service territory, and a DR application service provider. DR BizNet's major software components were demonstrated in an open workshop in 2005 (http://ciee.ucop.edu/dretd/WS_Apr_20.html). This DR BizNet field simulation is the next step in the transfer of technology to DR stakeholders in California.
In addition, the DR BizNet Field-Simulation participants will contrast their first hand experience with using DR BizNet with other technologies and processes used today, and will summarize the lessons learned during the project.
DR BizNet is a Demand Response Enabling Technology Development (DR ETD) project funded by the Energy Commission through the PIER Program. The project has designed an integrated infrastructure for DR that can be implemented in a distributed manner and drastically increase performance of DR business processes. The CA ISO, PG&E, SDG&E, and SCE have made significant contributions to the definition of business requirements and validating the reference design and the demonstration software for DR BizNet.
DR BizNet can enable 10x10 improvements (ten times the performance at one-tenth the cost potential) in DR functionality and efficiency by providing the technology and the framework for optimizing the currently ad-hoc and inefficient DR processes. It is built on several foundation technologies including 1) distributed Business Process Management, 2) Intelligent Agents, and 3) Standards-based Service Oriented Architecture. For more information on DR BizNet visit http://ciee.ucop.edu/dretd/DRBizNet.html and www.DRBizNet.org.
The project is managed by the California Institute for Energy & Environment on behalf of the Energy Commission and is conducted by a team of consultants led by Utility Integration Solutions, Inc.
The staff welcomes public comments/feedback on the DR BizNet process and results. Written comments on the workshop topics are due by 5:00 p.m. on September 11, 2006. The Energy Commission encourages comments by e-mail. Those submitting comments by electronic mail should provide them in either Microsoft Word format or as a Portable Document format (PDF) to firstname.lastname@example.org.
