Renewable Energy Secure Buildings

The Energy Commission's Renewable Energy Secure Buildings (RESB) projects address science and technologies that can advance the deployment of renewable energy in buildings across the state. This includes development of integration tools and models to help building engineers and contractors rely on renewable energy resources for building load. The ultimate goal of the program is to achieve zero-net energy commercial buildings that employ a diverse array of technologies and techniques in order to minimize energy consumption. The technologies that will need to be considered include:

  • Building end-use energy efficiency measures,
  • Building integrated renewable energy systems (such as wind and solar technologies),
  • Advanced generation technologies such as fuel cells and combined heat and power systems,
  • Ground source heat pumps and
  • Updated grid integration protocols.
