The California Energy Commission staff will hold a Data Request workshop for the proposed Blythe Energy Project Phase II so that the Applicant's representatives, interested agencies, and the public can discuss project issues and data requests submitted by the California Energy Commission on August 23, 2002. Subjects to be discussed include: Air Quality, Biology, Cultural Resources, Land Use, Noise, Public Health, Socioeconomics, Soil and Water Resources, Traffic and Transportation, Transmission System Engineering, Visual Resources, and Waste. If you have questions in a particular technical area, please contact Project Manager Bill Pfanner identified below, five days in advance of the meeting date so that appropriate technical staff can plan to attend.

Project Summary:

On July 17, 2002, the Energy Commission deemed the Blythe Energy Project Phase II (BEP II), Application for Certification (AFC) data adequate. This begins the Energy Commission's review process. The proposed project is located in the City of Blythe, next to the Blythe Energy Project I that was approved by the Energy Commission and is currently under construction. If approved, the BEP II will be a nominally rated 520-megawatt combined-cycle power plant.

Public Informational Hearing and Site Visit:

Also on September 9, 2002, the Energy Commission has scheduled a public Informational Hearing and Site Visit to discuss the proposed project with the Blythe community. The Site Visit will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the Public Informational Hearing will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Blythe City Hall. At the Informational Hearing, members of the general public, landowners, and representatives of other governmental agencies will have an opportunity to obtain information and offer comments on the proposal. The Applicant will explain its plans for developing the proposed site and related facilities. The Energy Commission staff will explain the regulatory review process and staff's role as independent experts in analyzing the project. The Applicant and the staff will also discuss possible issues that may be significant during the remainder of the proceeding.
