Notice of Data Response & Issue Resolution
Workshop for the
Canyon Power Plant

The California Energy Commission Staff will be conducting a Data Response and Issue Resolution Workshop for the proposed Canyon Power Plant (Canyon). The purpose of this workshop is to discuss the applicants' responses to staff's data requests and to work toward resolving outstanding issues. All interested agencies and members of the public are invited to participate.

Purpose

The Energy Commission staff is currently analyzing the Canyon project. Staff published data requests on May 5, 2008 for the following technical areas: air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, hazardous materials, socioeconomics, traffic and transportation, soil and water resources, and waste management. The staff workshop will focus on the Southern California Public Power Authority's (SCPPA) Application for Certification (AFC) and data responses. Staff's data request are available and the applicant's responses will be available on the Energy Commission's website at http://www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/canyon/documents/index.html. Following the workshop, staff will consider the comments it receives and initiate preparation of the Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA) containing a preliminary analysis of the project's environmental impacts, including recommendations for mitigation and conditions of certification.

Background

On December 28, 2007, SCPPA, submitted an AFC to the Energy Commission to construct and operate a nominal 200-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired simple cycle peaking power plant. The project is a proposed electrical generating facility that would be located in the city of Anaheim at 3071 East Miraloma Avenue on a 10-acre parcel.
