The Energy Commission Staff is currently analyzing the proposed development of the Carlsbad Energy Center Project. Staff published data requests in regard to the project on November 21, 2007 for the technical areas of: Transmission System Engineering, Cultural Resources, Waste Management, Visual Resources, Soil and Water, Air Quality, and Land Use. The staff workshop will focus on Carlsbad Energy's data responses, work toward resolving project issues and clarify the information required to satisfy outstanding data requests. Staff will consider the comments it receives and subsequently will publish a Preliminary Staff Assessment containing initial recommendations on the proposed project.
On September 14, 2007, Carlsbad Energy Center, LLC, submitted an Application for Certification (AFC) seeking approval from the Energy Commission to construct and operate the Carlsbad Energy Center Project (CECP), a 558 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle generating facility to be located in the City of Carlsbad, in San Diego County. The Energy Commission is responsible for reviewing and ultimately approving or denying all thermal power plants, 50-megawatt (MW) and greater, proposed for construction in California. On October 31, 2007 the Energy Commission accepted the AFC as complete, which initiated the Energy Commission staff's independent review of the proposed project.
