Notice of Staff Workshop #2 on
Data Responses and Issues Resolution for the
Carlsbad Energy Center Project

The California Energy Commission staff will conduct a second workshop for the proposed Carlsbad Energy Center Project. All interested agencies and members of the public are invited to participate.

The workshop will be held:

The purpose of the workshop is to allow the applicant, staff, interested agencies, and the public to discuss responses submitted by the applicant to staff's second round of data requests issued on February 28, 2008, and to work towards resolving project issues. Subjects to be discussed include: Air Quality, Hazardous Material Management, Socioeconomics, Traffic and Transportation, Visual Resources, Waste Management and other areas as needed.


On September 14, 2007, Carlsbad Energy Center, LLC, submitted an Application for Certification (AFC) seeking approval from the Energy Commission to construct and operate the Carlsbad Energy Center Project (CECP), a 558 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle generating facility to be located in the city of Carlsbad, in San Diego County. On October 31, 2007, the Energy Commission accepted the AFC as complete which initiated the Energy Commission staff's independent review of the proposed project. The proposed project site is an approximately 23-acre parcel within the 30-acre tank farm associated with the existing Encina Power Station. The Energy Commission is responsible for reviewing and deciding whether to approve applications for thermal power plants with a generating capacity of 50 MW or greater proposed for construction in California.
