NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
DELTA ENERGY CENTER ISSUE AND DATA RESPONSE WORKSHOP
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION (98-AFC-3)
On December 18, 1998, the partnership of Calpine Corporation and Bechtel Enterprises, Inc. filed an Application for Certification (AFC) seeking approval from the California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) to construct and operate the 880-megawatt (MW) Delta Energy Center. The project is proposed to be located on an undeveloped 20-acre parcel at the Dow Chemical Company facility.
The Energy Commission is responsible for reviewing and ultimately approving or denying licenses for thermal electric power plants, 50 MW and greater, proposed for construction in California. The Energy Commission's facility certification process examines public health and safety, environmental impacts and engineering aspects of proposed power plants, and all related facilities such as electric transmission lines, natural gas pipelines, and water lines. The Energy Commission's responsibilities are similar and equivalent to those of a lead agency under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
In preparation for the completion of our Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA) of the Delta Energy Center, we will be conducting a staff-sponsored workshop to discuss data responses provided by Calpine/Bechtel and to discuss potential environmental, public health and safety, and engineering issues. Data responses and issues associated with air quality, biological resources, public health and visual resources will be discussed.
The public is encouraged to attend and participate. The workshop will be held:
The location of the meeting is wheelchair accessible. If you require special accommodations, contact Robert Sifuentes, at (916) 654-5004, at least five days prior to the workshop. Persons who would like information on how to participate in the Commission's review of the project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489 or toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or e-mail email@example.com. Technical or project schedule questions should be directed to Paul Richins, Energy Commission Project Manager, at (916) 654-4074, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Information about the project as well as staff’s data requests, which are the subject of this workshop, are available on the Energy Commission's web page at www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/delta. News media inquiries should be directed to Assistant Director, Claudia Chandler, at (916) 654-4989.
