Community Outreach & Data Response Workshop

EL SEGUNDO POWER REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION,
DOCKET NO. 00-AFC-14


Purpose: The staff of the California Energy Commission will hold a public outreach meeting for the proposed El Segundo Power Plant Project. The Commission staff wants to present to the public its approach for addressing disproportionate impacts that may be posed by the proposed project. The staff will also be holding a Data Response workshop for the El Segundo Power Redevelopment Project (ESPRP) representatives, public and interested agencies. At the workshop the project applicant and staff will discuss data responses related to the Application for Certification process. Data response areas will include, but not be limited to: biological resources; geology; land use; noise; visual resources and water resources. The public and interested agencies are invited to participate, ask questions and provide comments on the topics being discussed.
Time: Thursday, May 17, 2001
Starting at 5:30 p.m., ending at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Project Summary: El Segundo Power II LLC (ESP II), is seeking approval to replace the existing El Segundo Generating Station (ESGS) Units 1 and 2 natural gas-fired, combined cycle electric generation facility. ESGS Units 3 and 4 located adjacent to Units 1 and 2 will not be modified by this project. The new facility is expected to generate 630 megawatts (MW) under nominal conditions. This is 280 MW more than the old Units 1 and 2 were capable of generating when operating. The project includes demolition and removal of the existing Units 1 and 2 and replacement with Units 5, 6, and 7 in the location previously occupied by Units 1 and 2.
