The High Desert Power Project, Limited Liability Company (LLC), is proposing to construct and operate a 680 to 720 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fueled electricity generation power plant. The proposed project is to be located in the northeast corner of the Southern California International Airport (formerly George Air Force Base), in the city of Victorville, in San Bernardino County, California. The power plant and related facilities, such as the electric transmission line, natural gas pipeline and water lines, are under the California Energy Commission's siting authority.
On May 15, 1998, the Energy Commission staff published the draft Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA). This document contained staff's preliminary findings and recommendations on the High Desert Power Project Application for Certification (AFC). In late June 1998 staff received comments from various parties on its draft PSA. On October 27, 1998, staff will conduct a workshop to discuss how staff intends to respond to the comments received on the draft PSA and to discuss the status of issue resolution and project schedule. The topics to be discussed include: air quality, water resources, biological resources, cultural resources, public health, socioeconomics, paleontological resources, safety, traffic, transmission system evaluation, facility design, land use, visual resources, waste management issues, and other issues addressed in the draft PSA. A workshop summary will be posted on the Energy Commission's Internet Web page (see address below). This workshop will be held:
