Purpose: The staff of the California Energy Commission will hold a workshop for the Los Esteros Critical Energy Facility (LECEF) Phase 1 Staff Assessment. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss all technical areas and conditions of certification in the Staff Assessment for the recertification of the LECEF simple-cycle license and resolve outstanding issues. Discussion topics will include air quality, biological resources, and water and soil resources.

Project Summary: Los Esteros Critical Energy Facility, LLC, is seeking recertification of its license to operate the natural gas-fired, simple cycle electric generation facility at 800 Thomas Foon Chew Way, in San Jose, CA., near the intersection of Zanker Road and Highway 237. This project was originally license by the Energy Commission on July 2, 2002, under emergency provisions in force at that time. The project supplies power to the electrical grid through an interconnection to the Los Esteros Substation-Nortech 115 kV transmission line. The Phase I facility currently generates 180 megawatts (MW) under nominal conditions.
