Notice of Staff Assessment Workshop for
Orange Grove Project

The California Energy Commission will conduct a workshop on the Staff Assessment (SA) for the proposed Orange Grove Project. The workshop will provide an opportunity for agencies, the public and other interested parties to present questions and comments on the SA. All interested agencies and members of the public are invited to participate. The workshop will be held:

Purpose

California Energy Commission staff recently filed its SA on the Orange Grove Project Application for Certification (AFC). The purpose of this SA workshop is to receive comments on staff's analysis from the applicant, public, intervenors in the proceeding, and local, state and federal agencies. Environmental and engineering related topics and any outstanding issues will be discussed. Discussions will include all topics contained in the SA with a focus on: Biology, Cultural Resources, and Soil and Water. Public comments on the SA are welcome and encouraged to be submitted in writing by December 4, 2008, to Felicia Miller, Project Manager, at the address on this letterhead.

Background

On June 19, 2008, Orange Grove Energy, LP filed an Application for Certification with the Energy Commission for the Orange Grove Project. Orange Grove Energy, LP is seeking Energy Commission approval to construct and operate a 96 megawatt (MW) generating facility in unincorporated northern San Diego County, under the Commission's standard 12-month power plant licensing process. The proposed generating facility would consist of natural gas-fired electric generation equipment and ancillary systems including electric and gas transmission lines, water and wastewater distribution and collection systems. If approved, the generating facility would be built on an 8.5-acre abandoned orchard site located five miles east of the town of Fallbrook.
