Draft Initial Study Workshop

Purposes: The California Energy Commission staff will be issuing its Draft Initial Study on the Application for Small Power Plant Exemption (SPPE) for the Riverside Energy Resource Center (RERC). The Draft Initial Study contains the staff's analysis and recommendation on RERC. The purpose of the workshop is to present the staff's evaluation and receive comments and questions from the applicant (Riverside Public Utilities), other agencies, intervenors and the public. Information collected at the workshop will contribute to the staff's Final Initial Study to be completed in late July.

Project Summary: Riverside Public Utilities proposes to build and operate a nominal 96 MW simple-cycle power plant on a 12-acre fenced site within the City of Riverside, California. Riverside Public Utilities would develop, build, own and operate the facility. The proposed site is owned by the City of Riverside and is adjacent to the City's Waste Water Treatment Plant. The 96-megawatt natural gas-fired simple cycle plant would consist of two General Electric LM 6000 SPRINT combustion turbines. The proposed project would include the construction of approximately 1.75 miles of new double circuit 69kV transmission line. All transmission line construction would occur in an existing city-owned transmission line right-of-way.
