Salton Sea Unit #6 Project
Preliminary Staff Assessment Workshop

Purpose: On April 14, 2003 the staff of the California Energy Commission filed its Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA), for the proposed Salton Sea Unit #6 (SSU6) geothermal energy project. The purpose of this workshop is to receive comments on the PSA. Comments will be used to revise the document and will be incorporated into the Final Staff Assessment (FSA). Public and agency comments are encouraged to be received in writing by May 5, 2003. Discussion topics will include Air Quality, Biological Resources, Visual Resources, Water and Soil Resources and other technical areas covered in the PSA. An agenda will be posted on the Energy Commission Website 5 days prior to the workshop.

Project Summary: On July 26, 2002, CE Obsidian Energy LLC (CEOE) filed the Salton Sea Unit 6 Application for Certification with the Energy Commission seeking approval to construct and operate a 185-megawatt (MW), geothermal powered, electric generating facility. The facility is proposed for an 80-acre site in unincorporated Imperial County, 1,000 feet southeast of the southern tip of the Salton Sea. The Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge is adjacent to the northwest corner of the project site. The plant would be owned and operated by CEOE, an affiliated company of CalEnergy Operating Corporation and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company.
