[Workshop Notice Letterhead]

Salton Sea Unit #6 Project
(Docket # 02-AFC-2)

Final Staff Assessment

The staff of the California Energy Commission will hold a workshop for the proposed Salton Sea Unit #6 (SSU6) geothermal energy project. The Energy Commission staff is analyzing CE Obsidian Energy's Application for Certification (02-AFC-2) for potential impacts and has issued its Final Staff Assessment (Part 1), and will issue Part 2 approximately September 26, 2003. The workshop discussions will provide an opportunity for the applicant, agencies, the public and staff to discuss technical analyses, proposed conditions of certification, and any procedural issues associated with the SSU6. Participants will discuss the potential impacts of the power plant, related facilities and proposed mitigation measures. Operational impacts and monitoring will also be considered by staff. All agencies are invited to participate.

Date and Time:

Wednesday October 1, 2003
Beginning at 9:30 A.M.

Project Summary:

On July 29, 2002, CE Obsidian Energy filed an Application for Certification (AFC) to construct and operate a geothermal steam turbine electric generating facility. The project was found data-adequate for review under the California Energy Commission's 12-month process on September 25, 2002. The project is proposed for an 80-acre parcel located six miles northwest of Calipatria, within the unincorporated area of Imperial County, California. The new geothermal power facility would generate approximately 185 megawatts.

The project would consist of a power plant site, well pads and brine pipelines, and electric transmission system consisting of two separate lines, totaling 31 miles, and a new switching station connecting the project with separate segments of the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) transmission system.

Public Participation:

The public is encouraged to participate and provide comments.
