SMUD's COSUMNES POWER PLANT PROJECT
APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION,
DOCKET NO. 01-AFC-19

The California Energy Commission SMUD Cosumnes Committee (Committee) is reviewing an Application for Certification (AFC) by SMUD to construct two 500 megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants near the Rancho Seco Nuclear Power Plant.

The Committee conducted the second Evidentiary Hearing on May 13, 2003. Transcripts from this hearing should be available in approximately two weeks. Earlier Evidentiary Hearings were held on March 12 and 13, 2003. Transcripts from these earlier hearing are currently available on the Energy Commission's web site at:

In accordance with discussions among the parties at the conclusion of the last Evidentiary Hearing, the Committee directs the parties to prepare and file briefs as follows:

• First Evidentiary Hearing Opening Brief (SMUD & Staff): May 28, 2003
• First Evidentiary Hearing Opening Brief (Intervenors): June 4, 2003
• Second Evidentiary Hearing Opening Brief/Reply Brief (SMUD & Staff): June 13, 2003*
• Second Evidentiary Hearing Opening Brief/Reply Brief (Intervenors): June 20, 2003*
• Second Evidentiary Hearing Reply Brief (SMUD & Staff): June 20, 2003*
• Second Evidentiary Hearing Reply Brief (Intervenors): June 27, 2003*

(* Assumes transcript available by May 30, 2003; otherwise, schedule slipped day-for-day.)

The Committee further directs Staff to prepare a Word file of all the proposed Conditions of Certification and electronically forward it to the Hearing Officer by May 30, 2003.
