Background and Purpose: On September 13, 2002 the staff of the California Energy Commission filed its Preliminary Staff Assessment (PSA) on the Tesla Power Project Application for Certification. This PSA will be followed by a Final Staff Assessment (FSA) to be released after a series of Energy Commission staff workshops. The staffŐs PSA is available for download from our web site at www.energy.ca.gov/sitingcases/tesla; or you may contact the project secretary at the address below if you wish to have it mailed to you. The purpose of this workshop is to gather additional information and work through final issues in preparation for the FSA. Topics to be covered may include air quality, biological resources, hazardous materials, land use, public health, soil and water resources, traffic and transportation, worker safety, and visual resources. Staff welcomes comments on these subjects from members of the public, Intervenors in the proceeding, and local, state and federal agencies.
Project Summary: On October 12, 2001, Midway Power LLC (MPLLC), a Delaware limited liability company and subsidiary of FPL Group (FPL), filed an Application for Certification (AFC) for the Tesla Power Project (TPP). MPLLC is seeking approval from the California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) to construct and operate a 1,120 MW combined cycle power generating plant. The site is located on a 60-acre portion of a 160-acre parcel, about 0.5 mile north of the PG&E Tesla Substation in Alameda County. Public Participation: The public is encouraged to participate and provide comments.
