Purpose: On August 8, 2003, California Energy Commission staff filed Part 1 of the Final Staff Assessment (FSA Part 1) that included analyses of all subject areas except for Hazardous Materials Management (to be filed at a later date) for the Walnut Energy Center Application for Certification, proposed by the Turlock Irrigation District (TID).
TID has indicated they would like to discuss staff's FSA analysis in the areas of Biology and Soil and Water Resources. Other potential areas of discussion include the proposed General Conditions of Certification and staff's analysis regarding Air Quality, Land Use, and Hazardous Materials Management. This workshop will assist both the staff and the applicant in preparing for the upcoming evidentiary hearings.
A toll-free conference number has been established for the workshop for those that cannot attend in person but wish to participate or listen to the workshop. Please call 1-888-795-2173. The pass code is "17210" and the call leader is Bob Eller.
Project Summary:TID is seeking approval to construct and operate a 250 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired, combined-cycle electric generating facility which would be owned and operated by TID. The WEC would be located in an industrially zoned area, currently used for agricultural production, about four miles west of the downtown portion of the City of Turlock, in Stanislaus County, southeast of the intersection of West Main Street and South Washington Road.
