Purpose: The California Energy Commission
staff will hold a Data Response workshop for the
proposed Malburg Generating Station Project so
that the applicant's representatives, interested
agencies, and the public can discuss project issues
and data responses submitted by the applicant
on June 19, 2002. Subjects to be discussed include:
Cultural Resources, Geology, Socioeconomics, Traffic
and Transportation, Transmission System Engineering,
Visual Resources, and Soil & Water. If you have
questions in a particular technical area, please
contact the project manager identified below five
days in advance of the meeting date so that appropriate
technical staff can plan to attend.

Project Summary: On May 8, 2002, the Energy Commission deemed the Malburg Generating Station Project (MGS), Application for Certification (AFC) data adequate. This begins the Energy Commission's review process. MGS is seeking approval from the California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) to operate a 134 megawatt (MW), natural-gas fired, combined cycle power plant, that would be located on approximately 3.4 acres of the City of Vernon's existing Station A power generating facility. The existing site includes 5.9 acres, located at 2715 East 50th Street, in Vernon, California.

Public Information Hearing and Site Visit: Also on July 1, 2002, after the Data Response and Issue Resolution Workshop, the Energy Commission has scheduled a public information hearing and site visit to discuss the proposed project with the Vernon community. The site visit will begin at 5:30 P.M. and the Public Information Hearing will begin at 6:30 P.M. at the Vernon City Hall. The purpose of the Information Hearing is to provide a public forum allowing the Applicant, Commission staff, government agencies, adjacent landowners, and members of the general public to consider the advantages and disadvantages of the project, and to discuss changes or alternatives as necessary.
