Staff Assessment Workshop


Purpose: The staff of the California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) will hold a workshop on June 5th in Santa Clara to discuss Part 2 of its Staff Assessment (SA) of the Pico Power Project (PPP) Application for Certification. Staff intends to release Part 2 of the SA on or about May 30, 2003. The SA will be available on our web site, or you may call Matt Trask, the project manager (see below), to have it mailed to you. Part 2 of the SA covers air quality and alternatives. The purpose of the workshop is to receive comments on staff's technical analysis. Topics to be discussed include air quality and perhaps biological resources and alternatives. An evidentiary hearing covering these same topics is scheduled for June 11th in Sacramento

Project Summary: On October 7, 2002, the City of Santa Clara's electric department, doing business as Silicon Valley Power (SVP), filed an Application for Certification (AFC) seeking approval from the California Energy Commission to construct and operate the Pico Power Project (PPP), a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle electric generating facility. The proposed 3-acre project site is located west of the intersection of Lafayette Street and Duane Avenue and immediately north of SVP's Kifer Receiving Station in the City of Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, California. The new combined-cycle facility is expected to generate 122 megawatts (MW) under nominal conditions, with the ability to generate up to 147 MW with supplemental duct firing.
