The 2008 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Standards) were adopted by the California Energy Commission on April 23, 2008 and were approved for publication by the California Building Standards Commission on September 11, 2008. Compliance with these Standards is primarily demonstrated through the performance approach by using compliance software to show that each proposed building meets the energy budget established for that building. Pursuant to Public Resources Code 25402.1(b) and Section 10-109 of the Standards and consistent with the Alternative Calculation Methods (ACM) Approval Manual, the Energy Commission reviews and approves privately developed software for showing compliance with Standards. Energy Pro 5.0 is the latest version of Energy Pro, which has been updated to meet the ACM Manual requirements for compliance software for the 2008 Nonresidential Building Energy Efficiency Standards.

The Energy Commission approved Energy Pro 5.0 on July 29, 2009. Energy Pro 5.0 is now available for demonstrating compliance with the 2008 Standards for nonresidential buildings, high-rise residential buildings and hotels and motels.
