Senate Bill 1170 (Chapter 912, Statutes of 2001) directs the California Energy Commission to make recommendations on a California State Fuel-Efficient Tire Program. A draft report on this subject entitled "Recommendation for a California State Fuel-Efficient Tire Program" is required to be submitted to the State Legislature and the Governor by January 31, 2003. The California Energy Commission staff will conduct a one-day workshop as follows:

The purpose of the workshop is to obtain public comment on the draft report. The report will include recommendations on ways to establish tire testing procedures, baseline data, and a tire rating system; determine effects of mandatory tire efficiency standard on safety; and disseminate information to California consumers. The report will be placed on the California Energy Commission's web site www.energy.ca.gov/transportation/ and will be available at the California Energy Commission's Publications Office (916- 654-4288, Publication No. 600-03-001D) by or no later than November 22, 2002. In addition, the staff and their consultants will present technical documentation at the workshop to support findings and recommendations to be included in the draft report.
