DRIVING TO CLEANER TRANSPORTATION
CALSTART, INC., CATERPILLAR INC.

The Caterpillar Inc. hydraulic hybrid excavator may reduce up to 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel fuel models.

In partnership with CALSTART, Caterpillar, Inc., is demonstrating an off-road, 36-ton hydraulic hybrid excavator, capable of seamlessly moving raw materials such as dirt and rocks from one location to another.

The hybrid excavator has been used by Teichert, Inc., and Kiewit, two major construction companies in California. It has also been used in the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley areas.

Energy Commission funding helps accelerate commercialization of this technology, helping the technology to become more widely available in a shorter amount of time. Data will be collected from these companies to measure real-world fuel savings potential and gain customer feedback.
