DRIVING TO CLEANER TRANSPORTATION
ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER SUPPORT

The California Energy Commission has invested more than $38 million in developing electric vehicle infrastructure.

The California Energy Commission’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program awarded more than $38 million in grants for the installation and construction of more than 8,600 electric vehicle (EV) charge points. The network of charge points supports plug-in EVs and provides critical, real-world benefits to consumers throughout California.

The Energy Commission has also funded 10 plug-in electric vehicle regional readiness planning grants throughout the state. These grants help regions plan for plug-in EV deployment, new charging infrastructure, and the permitting process.

Benefits

  • Assists in providing the infrastructure that supports Governor Brown’s zero-emission vehicle goals.

  • Helps grow the market by supporting strategically located EV charging infrastructure.

  • Helps EV drivers and potential fleet operators gain confidence in the technology and alleviate range anxiety.

  • Reduces the state’s dependence on petroleum.

  • Reduces greenhouse gas emissions and other particulate matter associated with burning fossil fuels, as plug-in EVs are more than three times as fuel-efficient and produce no tailpipe emissions.
