Annual Planning Renewable Net Short

The annual planning renewable net short (RNS) determines the amount of additional renewable generation that can be expected to be built in state and/or delivered from out-of-state sources to meet the Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) target. The planning RNS does not take into account individual load-serving entity RPS procurement needs, as it is intended to examine statewide, renewable energy needs. The planning RNS can be used to evaluate the electricity infrastructure requirements for integrating additional generation and identify market mechanisms that may be needed to provide ancillary services required to maintain system reliability.

Existing Operational RPS Generation

The Existing Operational RPS Generation spreadsheet provides a list of existing and operating generators assumed RPS eligible for California’s Renewables Portfolio Standard. This spreadsheet lists the operational RPS generators and also projects their generation for future years. This spreadsheet is updated annually by Energy Commission staff to support standardized statewide planning assumptions. It also is the basis for the statewide planning RNS.
