The Electric Power Research Institute Inc. (EPRI) and the Western Cooling Efficiency Center at University of California Davis will present a webinar to highlight recommendations from its research project "Development and Testing of the Next Generation Residential Space Conditioning System for California." This project, which was funded by the Energy Commission's Electric Program Investment Charge Program, evaluated prototype next-generation residential space conditioning systems at three occupied homes in California.
The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (PDT). To register, go to https://energy.webex.com/energy/onstage/g.php?MTID=eb58fccfc1a88036293ca515b7071193d.
The project designed and tested residential heat pump space-conditioning systems enhanced by advanced efficiency solutions. Solutions include variable-capacity compressor and variable-speed fans using state-of-the-art inverter technology; integrated ventilation to harness fresh air for free cooling; intelligent dual-fuel technology to decrease energy cost and empower consumers to choose between electricity and natural gas; zonal control to prevent conditioning of unoccupied rooms; demand-response interactivity to grid flexibility and reliability; advanced fault detection and diagnostics to ensure proper installation, operation, and maintenance; and alternative refrigerants for improved operation and significant reductions in the potential for global warming.
The installed enhanced technologies and roughly one year of system performance will be discussed. EPRI will also provide laboratory and field evaluation results, and technology recommendations.
