Step 1: Take Assessment or Apply for Exam
Applicants that are new to employment with the State of California or those wishing to promote within State service must complete and pass an assessment/exam, in order to be eligible to apply for vacant positions.
The California Energy Commission is currently offering all the assessment/exam identified below. Click on the examination title to be directed to the respective exam bulletin. The exam bulletin will identify all pertinent information, including instructions and the minimum qualifications required to take the specific assessment/exam. The filing instructions are found on the examination bulletins; the examination type refers to the following:
- Training & Experience (T&E) – CalHR Online – apply for this online assessment using your online CalCareer account.
- Training & Experience (T&E) – Print & Submit – apply for these assessments by completing the PDF T&E document and submitting a copy of your completed Standard State Application, form 678. Print and submit both documents as stated on the exam bulletin.
- Written – Apply for the Energy Analyst exam by submitting a copy of your completed Standard State Application, form 678 by the cutoff date indicated on the 2019 Written Exam Schedule.
- Make sure you completely identify your experience and education that meets the minimum qualifications described in the examination bulletin, using similar phrases and language.
- Be patient. You must pass the examination and be reachable on the list before applying and interviewing for open positions
