Developing Electric Vehicle Charging Payment and Network Communication Standards

The California Energy Commission (CEC) was authorized by Senate Bill 123 (Chapter 52, Statues of 2023) to draft regulations related to electric vehicle charging station payment methods, interoperability, signage, labeling, and reporting. SB 123 transfers implementation and enforcement of these regulations from the California Air Resources Board to the CEC after the CEC adopts regulations through this public rulemaking.

This public rulemaking is focused on improving the charging experience which is important for increased electric vehicle adoption.
