The Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program (REAP) provided grants from 2019 to 2024, which supported the installation of renewable energy technologies serving agricultural operations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This dashboard enables access to key information related to projects funded by the REAP Program. The data for each project include: the location and whether it is in a disadvantaged community, low-income community, or both; grant funding awarded; type of renewable technology and power capacity installed; and the equivalent GHG emissions that were avoided due to the installed renewable technology.
For more information on the REAP program, please visit the Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program webpage.

Awarded Funds: Total amount of funds approved by the California Energy Commission to give to recipients of the Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program.
Capacity Installed: The total maximum amount of electricity that Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program’s projects can generate with the installed onsite renewable energy technologies, measured in megawatts (MW).
GHG Emission: Abbreviation of greenhouse gas emissions. Health and Safety Code 38505 identifies seven greenhouse gases that the Air Resources Board is responsible to monitor and regulate in order to reduce emissions: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and nitrogen trifluoride (NF3). The fluorinated gases are also referred to as "high global warming potential gases" in the 2008 Scoping Plan.
GHG Emissions Avoided: GHG Emissions reduced, which correlates to the amount avoided, by subtracting the baseline energy usage assessment from the reduction amount. The REAP program used the quantification methodology developed by the California Air Resources Board that was based on a review of the available science, in close coordination with the Energy Commission, as well as academic consultants and other experts, as needed. The REAP Quantification Methodology is posted at California Air Resources Board.
Justice Communities: Justice Communities is a broad umbrella term that encompasses the following designations, as defined by the CEC Justice Access Equity Diversity Inclusion (JAEDI) Framework:
- Disadvantaged Communities (DAC): California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) formally designated four categories of geographic areas as disadvantaged:
- Census tracts that received the highest 25 percent of overall scores in CalEnviroScreen 4.0
- Census tracts lacking overall scores in CalEnviroScreen 4.0 due to data gaps but received the highest 5 percent of CalEnviroScreen 4.0 cumulative pollution burden scores.
- Census tracts identified in the 2017 DAC designation as disadvantaged, regardless of their scores in CalEnviroScreen 4.0.
- Lands under the control of federally recognized Tribes.
- Low Income Community (LIC):
- Low-Income communities and households are those with incomes either at or below 80 percent of the statewide median or below a threshold designated as low-income by the Department of Housing and Community Development.
Data is from the California Air Resources Board's Map of California Climate Investments Priority Populations.
Assembly Bill 1550 (Gomez, Chapter 369, Statutes of 2016) amends existing Senate Bill 535 (DeLeon, Chapter 830, Statutes of 2012) to set investment minimums for Greenhouse Gas Reduction Funds projects in and benefiting disadvantaged communities and low-income communities. Pursuant to Assembly Bill 1550, REAP program guidelines included bonus points to projects that were located in justice communities.
Paid Funds: Total amount of funds the recipients submitted for reimbursement and paid by the California Energy Commission's Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program.
REAP: The California Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy for Agriculture Program (REAP) offered grants from 2019 to 2024 to support the installation of renewable energy technologies serving agricultural operations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Technology Type: Refers to renewable energy technology used in the program. Three technology options were considered:
- Solar System Only: refers to REAP Program projects that only installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems as the technology type.
- Solar System + EV Charger: refers to REAP Program projects that installed solar PV systems and an electric vehicle (EV) charger system as the technology type.
- Solar System + EV Charger + Other: refers to REAP Program projects that installed solar PV systems, EV charger systems, and other technologies, such as agricultural pumps as the technology type.
Information
A solicitation for this program was released in January 2019 and all funding was exhausted. All projects were completed by 2024, so the data shown in this dashboard is not expected to change.
