Anaheim Elementary School District submitted an application to receive grant funding under the California Energy Commission Solicitation GFO-17-607 to replace eight old diesel school buses. Anaheim Elementary School District was awarded funding for eight vehicle-to-grid ready electric school buses and the supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Anaheim Elementary School District purchased eight electric school buses and installed eight chargers through the California Energy Commission. The buses were placed into service between July 12, 2021, and January 4, 2022, and districts were offered workforce training to help support the successful deployment of the new electric fleet. The old, diesel-powered buses were also dismantled and removed from service. This project found that the electric school buses will reduce lifetime greenhouse gas emissions by 846.41 short tons and will have a lifetime cost savings of $1,622,520.
