Advantage Manufacturing, Inc. (Advantage) is a California based company that manufactures residential pool pumps and pool motors. From January 2013 through October 2016, Advantage sold or offered for sale non-compliant residential pool pumps and pool motors in California through various retailers and distributors.

The California Energy Commission (Commission) staff tested one residential pool pump and one pool motor at the California State University, Sacramento - College of Engineering Energy Efficiency Laboratory and found them to be in violation of the Appliance Efficiency Regulations governing residential pool pumps and pool motors. These residential pool pumps and pool motors did not meet the design standards and were not certified to the Appliance Efficiency Database (Database).

To settle this matter, Advantage executed a settlement agreement (agreement) with the Commission on May 18, 2017, for $3,000.00. The penalty was reduced due to financial hardship evidenced by Advantage. Advantage has taken measures to prevent the sale of single speed products and has certified their pool pumps to the Database. This investigation started as a result of a market survey done by Commission staff. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011(Pavley).
