ASUSTek Computer Inc. (ASUS) is a company that manufactures computers and battery chargers, based in Taipei City, Taiwan. ASUS sold or offered for sale desktop computers, notebook computers, mobile gaming systems, computer monitors, and battery chargers in California, from June 2018 to June 2022.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that ASUS was manufacturing and offering for sale desktop computers, notebook computers, mobile gaming systems, computer monitors, and battery chargers that did not meet the efficiency standard, were not marked properly, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To resolve this matter, ASUS executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on November 24, 2024, for $961,633.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount as required in Public Resources Code 25402.11. ASUS has also agreed to a compliance plan to provide updated BIOS software to consumers to ensure compliance with efficiency standards, add the appropriate marking, and certify all models to MAEDbS.
