Big Toys Direct (Big Toys) is a Modesto, California based company that manufactures battery chargers. Big Toys sold or offered for sale battery operated ride-on toys in California, from January 2018 to April 2022.

This case was the result of a complaint received by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s complaint investigation process identified that Big Toys was manufacturing and offering for sale battery operated ride-on toys that were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Big Toys executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on February 17, 2023 for $66,822.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Big Toys has also agreed to discontinue sales of non-compliant models in California.
