Briggs and Stratton Corporation (Briggs and Stratton) is a Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, based company who manufactures electric start generators and pressure washers. Briggs and Stratton sold or offered for sale electric start generators and pressure washers in California, during the time period of February 2013 to January 2017.
This case started as an industry complaint. The California Energy Commission's (Commission) testing and investigation process identified Briggs and Stratton manufacturing and offering for sale electric start generators and power washers that did not meet the energy efficiency standards and were not marked properly.
To settle this matter, Briggs and Stratton executed a Settlement Agreement with the Commission on December 15, 2017, for $112,000.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011(Pavley). Briggs and Stratton has also agreed to a compliance plan to remove these noncompliant products from the California market.
