Briggs and Stratton Corporation (B&S) is a Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, based company that manufactures Troy-Bilt brand electric start generators. B&S sold or offered for sale Troy-Bilt electric start generators in California, during the time period of January 2015 to April 2018. 

This case was the result of a market survey performed by California Energy Commission (Energy Commission) staff. The Energy Commission's testing and investigation process identified B&S manufacturing and offering for sale Troy-Bilt electric start generators containing a small battery charger system that did not meet the energy efficiency standard. 

To settle this matter, B&S executed a Settlement Agreement with the Energy Commission on November 16, 2018, for $53,235.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). B&S has also agreed to a compliance plan to test all basic models to verify passing performance and certify applicable products before continuing to sell in California.
