Cree Lighting USA, LLC. (Cree) is a Racine, Wisconsin based company that manufactures lamps. Cree sold or offered for sale state-regulated LED lamps (SLEDs) in California, from July 2019 to July 2023.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that Cree was manufacturing and offering for sale SLEDs that did not meet the efficiency standard, failed the marking requirement, and were not certified to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Cree executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on December 29, 2023, for $4,550.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Cree has also agreed to a compliance plan to discontinue sales in California. If they resume sales, they agree to test all models to ensure compliance with the efficiency standard, add the appropriate marking, and certify all models to MAEDbS.
