Dell Technologies Inc. (Dell) is a Round Rock, Texas based company that manufactures computers. Dell sold or offered for sale desktop computers, high expandability computers, mobile gaming systems, mobile workstations, notebook computers, rack-mounted workstations, thin clients, and workstations in California, from January 2019 to August 2022.

This case was the result of an investigation performed by California Energy Commission (CEC) staff. CEC’s investigation and testing process identified that Dell was manufacturing and offering for sale desktop computers, high expandability computers, mobile gaming systems, mobile workstations, notebook computers, rack-mounted workstations, thin clients, and workstations that were not listed by basic model to the Modernized Appliance Efficiency Database System (MAEDbS).

To settle this matter, Dell executed a Settlement Agreement with CEC on April 16, 2024, for $260,370.00. The penalty monies are deposited into the Appliance Efficiency Enforcement Subaccount established by SB 454 of 2011 (Pavley). Dell has also agreed to a compliance plan to certify all models to MAEDbS before continuing to sell in California.
